This year we are happy to be able to offer the PCOC course through Malich Altman, one of our sailing coaches. He is a certified PCOC instructor who is able to teach and administer the PCOC exam.
PCOC stands for a Pleasure Craft Operator Card, which is mandatory by law for anyone operating a pleasure craft or boat in Canada, as of September 15 2009. The PCOC has no expiration date, it is good for life, and no annual costs!
The course will consist of 4 hours of theory and then a 50 multiple-choice exam, which you must receive 75% or higher to pass, or 38 answers. You have plenty of time to do the exam with a maximum of 75 minutes! If you don’t pass on your first attempt, it is no problem, we will schedule another date 24 hours from the first attempt where you will retake the test on different copy of the exam, free of cost (you get 2 free retakes of the test!).
The course is open to children, parents, friends, and anyone who is interested in becoming certified. There is no minimum age, and no age limit, but everyone takes the same level exam. There is a maximum of 15 participants so register fast! Registrants will be confirmed on a first come first serve basis.
Once you pass the exam, a temporary PCOC will be issued to you on the spot, and a permanent PCOC will be mailed to the address that you have given.
There will be a tender giving lifts from Georgeville landing, and Knowlton's Landing to SBYC. The course will be offered mostly in English. The location of the course will be at SBYC, however, if the weather does not permit us to use the club we will most likely change locations to a my home near Vale Perkins landing where I will give a lift from Georgeville but not from Knowlton's Landing.
How to register:
1) Download and print out the PCOC course registration form from below and complete.
2) Send a copy of the form by mail, with a check inside made out to Malich Altman.
3) An email will be sent to registrants to confirm their spot in the course upon receiving payment and forms.
4) Information will be sent by e-mail during the week prior to the chosen course date.
Or you can send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and phone number saying that you are interested in the course, and on the day of the course you show up with the form filled out and the amount of the course in cash, (this just skips step number 2 so you don't have to mail it).
