SBYC

Est. 1935
Picture
Sargent’s Bay Yacht Club was founded in 1935 by four prominent residents of the Western side of lake Memphremagog, Sydney Lyman, Dr. Wilder Penfield, Philip Fisher and his brother Roswell Eric Fisher.  The club initially focused on regattas for adult sailors however social events proved very popular as well. The annual Labour Day picnic attracted upwards of 300 guests in its heyday.

Now in its 88th year, SBYC is many things:
  • a home away from home;
  • a place where your kids learn to sail or your parents learned to sail;
  • a (mostly) an adult-free zone;
  • a rustic and electricity-free destination;
  • a place to make a close friendships;
  • and most of all, a Community.

Having had to relocate during the Covid19 pandemic from its original home at the Fisher estate (on the North shore of Sargent’s Bay), members have initiated a search for a new and permanent location. In the meanwhile, the club is based at Cedar Lodge, not far from Georgeville.

The 2023 sailing season - to use a hockey analog - will continue to be "a rebuilding year". Despite having been uprooted from that original site in the Bay, members remain dedicated to ensuring the club values remain and new rituals ensue. As the Club evolves with the next generation of sailors, it also welcomes all former members to rejoin the community, get involved and volunteer.

Junior Sailing Camp
The SBYC summer sailing program is open to the public as well as to Club members. We welcome sailors from  9 years of age (prior to July 1st) up to 17 years, with or without sailing experience.

The Junior Sailing camp runs thanks to the help of family volunteers. Each family is required to sign-up for a minimum of two days to set-up and dismantle the docks. Parents wishing to help out and sign-up for occasional race day(s) is also very much appreciated.
