Head Coach and Laser Race Coach: Angus Aitken
Hi everyone,
Let's just say I've spent a lot of time this winter dreaming of sailing and I could not be more excited to return to SBYC for another summer as Head Coach. Starting as a junior sailor, moving into Opti's, racing Laser's, and becoming a coach, SBYC has been my home for over a decade. SBYC means a lot more to me than just sailing. I have learned many valuable life skills, met some of my closest friends and have so many fond memories of my summers spent on the bay. As Head Coach I look forward to coaching every sailor at the club with a focus on our Laser Race Team. Whether you have never sailed or are hoping to race at CORK, I can tell you there is always more to learn. Having no road access and no electricity, SBYC is a place you learn independence, problem solving, leadership and of course you learn to sail. I hope that anyone who spends time with us this summer leaves with a love and appreciation for the sport, the club and its traditions. Sam, Grayson, Ella and I look forward to SBYC's 86th year on Lake Memphremagog and can't wait to see you all at dock day this June. Angus |
Race Team Coach: Grayson Wheeler
Ahoy Sailors,
My name is Grayson Wheeler and I will be coaching the Race Team this upcoming summer at SBYC. I can’t wait to get back on the lake and make some more great memories. Sailing at SBYC had a huge impact on my childhood, from chill days on the water to exhilarating races, all while making long-lasting friends. I’m excited to help share my great experiences with the new generation of sailors. The freedom and independence of controlling your own boat are so important to who I’ve become, and I couldn’t imagine my summers without sailing. Above all, the SBYC community is simply unique from anything I’ve encountered. The club is anything but ordinary, and the inclusive and supportive environment truly allows kids to be who they want to be. I hope you guys are ready for an amazing summer out on the beautiful bay, I can't wait! See you out there! Grayson |
Junior Coach: Ella Jangl
Hello everyone,
My name is Ella and this will be my sixth year of sailing at SBYC. In my free time I enjoy… you guessed it... sailing! No, but in all seriousness, I also love to paint, sketch, act, write, ski and to go hiking out into the wilderness! I’m also always open for a philosophical debate! After coming back here, summer after summer, I’ve realized there’s one thing about SBYC that never changes. Though we all learn and grow, adapt and evolve over the years, the love of sailing, and the friends we make fill our summers with a sense of wonder. It’s a feeling that seems to carry us through the year, as if the very memories of SBYC stay with us, to calm and reassure us… “Don’t worry, you’ll be coming back again.” It’s really those unexpected moments of summer that make it so amazing. Whether it is playing Quidditch on the water, feeling the wind on your sail, learning a new technique, passing a new CanSail level, winning a race, or just spending time with friends, I am convinced you’ll have an amazing time here. I’m very excited to continue making new memories with you as a coach this summer, and I hope to pass over to you the love I share for flying over the water and the love of SBYC. See you soon! Ella |
Junior Coach: Sam Smith
Rise and Shine! ☀️
Hello, my name is Sammy Smith! This year I will be one of the coaches for the junior CANSail 1-2 program and I am also a certified lifeguard! SBYC has helped me grow and develop not only as an individual with my close friends but as a sailor too. SBYC has helped me learn many life skills and I can’t wait to teach our new athletes and sailors. From laughing on boats, to crazy windy days and even cold rainy days, it's always a good day at camp. I am very excited to meet and teach our new sailors and ecstatic to see our returning athletes. SBYC is a fantastic place to learn about sailing and I guarantee you will make many new memories and friends during your SBYC journey. Due to Covid this year, we are fortunate that we can run safely and work with you this summer! I can’t wait to see you all and teach you something new! See you on the docks, Sammy |
