Basic Sailing skills
CANSail I
Sailors are introduced to the basics of single-handed sailing in an Optimist or double-handed in a 420: steering, sheeting, and boat-handling on all points of sail. The goal is to be able to sail comfortably and independently within a defined area of water, have fun and be safe. They will also learn basic theory and dry-land skills: boat parts, knots, sailing terms, etc. All campers new to sailing will be placed in this level. CANSail I certification is typically completed in 2 weeks.

Advanced skills & Intro to racing
CANSail III & IV
Developing higher level of boat-handling skills, sailors are introduced to tactics and strategy on practice race courses. Team communication skills, use of trapezes and spinnakers on 420 boats may be some of the focus here. CANSail II is a prerequisite.
CANSail II & IV certificates are typically attained after several weeks of sailing in a season.
Participation in a regetta or 2 during the season is to be determined based on camper interest and volunteer availability.
CANSail IV is precursor to becoming an instructor.
