SAILING CAMP 2023 Registration
INSCRIPTION 2023 CAMP DE VOILE

Overview

If sailors want to take their skills to the next level, they are highly encouraged to join the SBYC racing program. It prepares keen sailors for the thrill and challenge of regattas, while promoting hard work and team bonding. Sailors are encouraged to register for a month or more of camp to experience as much training, theory and racing as possible. Whether they are interested in competing in International regattas or at local events, we offer many exciting opportunities for our athletes to compete. The SBYC racing program is ideal for sailors looking for fun, challenge, and camaraderie. By spending more time on the water and acquiring a deeper level of knowledge, racers can experience the joys of competitive and advanced sailing throughout their entire lives.

Sailor Commitments

Sailors should try to commit at least 4 weeks of their summer to the racing program, and to whatever races are available during their weeks of registration. They are also expected to show up consistently Monday through Friday, and do their very best to make it to races at SBYC or elsewhere on the lake.

Parent Commitments

We ask that all parents with sailors attending regattas make some contribution to making these events happen. This can range from preparing meals for the team, to hauling boats to and from the regatta location. Further details are provided once organizing the logistics begins.

Regattas & Events

These races are always summer highlights, no matter what the results. For them to happen, lodging, food, and transportation are key items that the club is thankful to parents for in their help.
Further details will be provided to those registered for the racing program. More information on the regattas is below.

Regattas

Try Regatta - Point Clare Yacht Club (July 7, 2023): The first training regatta of the year and Quebec’s largest for youth sailing. It consists of two days of training followed by two days of racing. It is a very friendly regatta for beginners. The junior racers skills are tested on around the buoys racing with on the water coaching.

Fruitbowl Sail Central - Hudson Yacht Club (Late July):  It consists of two days of training run by top notch sailors and is followed by two days of racing. This beginner friendly (Green Fleet) regatta has sailors camping on the HYC grounds and is one of the best regattas to go to.

Howson Cup - Brome Lake Boating Club (Late July): A classic small lake regatta. This relaxed-vibe regatta is run over the course of a weekend and is the best regatta for sailors who want a first glimpse at racing. Sailors camp at BLBC and a communal dinner and breakfast are provided for everyone attending.

Jeux de Quebec - Rimouski (25-29 July, 2023): SBYC single-handed and Opti sailors have the chance to represent the region of Estrie at this multi-sport event held every two years. Along with friends from Brome Lake, Hatley and Magog sailing clubs, qualified sailors can get a real GAMES experience, racing against 24 other sailors from around the province.

CORK International Optimist Regetta - Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, Kingston, ON (August 4-6): For keen Opti racers CORK is often the highlight of the summer. With over 180 boats on the course, it is one of the biggest and most competitive Opti regattas in Canada. Sailors travel to Kingston and the race is held over four days of which three are racing and one is dedicated to training.

CORK Youth Championships, Lasers and 420s - Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, Kingston, ON (August 8-11, 2023): For Laser and 420 sailors who want to compete against other high caliber sailors along with many sailors from other countries, CORK is the best regatta to attend. With over 100 boats per fleet , CORK offers some of the best sailing conditions in Canada and is often the highlight of the summer for many sailors.
