Bullet's of the Bay
Over the past few years SBYC has been running a competitive sailing program, and this year we are excited to announce that Malich Altman will be taking the helm. The race team will sail from Monday to Friday and will have the option to participate in club races every Sunday starting on Canada day, and ending on Labor Day weekend.
The race program will have the CanSail 3 and 4 program built into it. However, we will be adding more advanced skills that give sailors a better understanding of the sport.
The team will be focusing on the development of each athlete. Our aim is to attract competitive sailors who are eager to improve their sailing skills over the course of the summer. It will be a seven-week program; therefore we recommend that kids register for the full seven weeks, however, in cases where this is simply impossible, we recommend no less than a four-week minimum. The program will start by teaching team members the basics of racing; including starts, rules of the road, and fundamental sailing skills. As the summer progresses we will go further into racing tactics and more skilled techniques.
The team will attend different races throughout the season including:
Quebec Games Qualifiers at Voile Magog: July 4 2014
TRY Youth Training Regatta at Point Claire Yacht Club: July 10-13 2014
Howson Regatta at Brome Lake Boat Club: July 19-20 2014
FruitBowl Canada Sail Central at Hudson Yacht Club: July 24-27 2014
Quebec Games in Longueil: August 5-9 2014
Canadian Olympic Regatta Kingston in Kingston Ontario: Opti’s: August 8-10 2014 Lasers: August 11-14 2014
We will hold a meeting between late April and early May with parents, Frank Page (Head Coach), representatives from the board, and Malich Altman present to discuss the layout of the season and to get a jumpstart on the organization of races. As well to answer any questions you may have about the program. In particular, a decision will have to be made whether to attend the Quebec Games or CORK International Optimist regatta that overlap this year.
If you are interested to register your kids in the race program, please fill out the registration form and send it to Beth Noel.
